30 years ago, a concert at the 56,000-seat Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles launched the 1994 World Cup. It was given by The Three Tenors – José Carreras, Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti – performing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Music Center Opera Chorus and conductor Zubin Mehta. The event was broadcast to 100 countries and viewed by more than a billion people.
Now the live recording of the concert is available as a limited edition 2LP set on purple and orange vinyl. The programme includes arias by Puccini – ‘Nessun dorma’, of course – Verdi, Massenet and Leoncavallo, a medley of Hollywood songs, and a musical world tour.
This special release marks the UEFA European Championship, which runs from June 14th to July 14th 2024. Three decades on, The Three Tenors are still on the ball.
